There's no shortage of heartbreaking moments in 13 Reasons Why,Punjabi Archives but one particular one ties the first season together neatly in a way most of the plot doesn't.

BuzzFeedfound one Tumblr user's observation that the song "A 1000 Times," which plays over a fantasy sequence of Clay and Hannah dating, contains a clue about Nov. 10 -- the day of the depositions in the final episodes.

One thing is for sure: It's not a coincidence. Just take a look at the song's lyrics:

I had a dream that you were mineI’ve had that dream a thousand times...The 10th of November, the year's almost overIf I had your number, I’d call you tomorrowIf my eyes were open, I’d be kicking the doors inBut all that I have is this old dream I’ve always had

In a previous article, I pointed out a few of the show's less-inspired writing decisions, such as using Tony to explain all the weighty themes instead of the old "show, don't tell." But bringing things full circle is an evergreen narrative technique for show finales; Lostwould often return to the same character flashback or locations and bring back previous musical themes as a through-line. Hinting at the depositions well before they occur is the type of foreshadowing your 9th grade English teacher would be proud of you for catching.

The music on 13 Reasons Whyis highly significant, and the show's team was careful in choosing each song.

"Music was a huge part of it for me," Dylan Minnette told Popsugar prior to the series' premiere. "I had a dialogue with Brian [Yorkey] from the get-go about what songs should be on the soundtrack. I love that he was so open and it was very much a collaboration."

"Joy Division plays a huge part in the first episode," he added later. "So there are things that keep it timeless and make it feel like it could happen anytime, even though it's happening right now. Everyone can connect to it, either by sight or by sound."
